TOWARD A NEW HORIZON
Imagine, if you will, stepping off the busy street and walking into a space where there is room to breathe, contemplate and get quiet. Where photographic “doorways” beckon. Where the feminine spirit is honored. Collaboration is key. Community building is valued. Surrounded by imagery of the natural world, as well as echoes of human’s interaction and effects. This body of work continues to examine narratives embedded in the landscape and to offer up a collective vision that spans from coast to coast.
Works by each artist viewed here, although discrete and complete in their own way, were intended to be explored further as wall collages, incorporated into a larger, singular installation that Southerly Gold conceptualized to exhibit at Good Children Gallery in New Orleans, LA opening April 11th. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 sweeping through our city and communities, that exhibition had to be postponed.
Southerly Gold maintains a strong practice and belief in the collaborative process and in that spirit we had invited female identified artists to contribute their vision and talents. Now more than ever it’s important to keep bringing people together in whatever ways we can. The photographic work seen here is the raw material that was intended to be used to create visual portals dedicated to the four elements, earth, water, air and fire, and a video that speaks to the fifth element, spirit.
